There has always been a buzz about the GATE organizing Institute because, people always come up to a conclusion on the toughness and majority of questions based on the Research Area of the institute, this has mostly worked out like IIT DELHI (2012 paper) which was the toughest and had lot's of electro magnetics questions and IIT Bombay (2013 paper) which was the paper with many mistakes and had some questions from VLSI and even had one question which was actually a sentence from Sedra and smith co-authored by famous IIT Bombay professor Arun .R. Chandorkar.
So this time around it is IISC Bangalore and IIT Madras jointly Organising GATE 2016, so the major research areas are Signal Processing and Circuit design, honestly there is nothing that IISC is not doing Research on they are virtually in everything.
The reality is that the organizing institute will only moderate the paper setting process. Professors from almost all the IITs and IISc are requested for question papers. After collecting papers from selected professors a common paper is set. It’s neither a paper from single professor nor form a single institute. - "INSPIRE and IGNITE"
